22. June | Kick-Off: 8.30 p.m.
@ Alter Roter Löwe Rein | Richardstr. 31 | 12043 Berlin
Concert series HEIMSPIEL is teaming up for its second to last show before the summer break. The upcoming edition features US folk-icon VIKING MOSES stopping bye at ALTER ROTER LÖWE REIN on his Europe-Tour.
Since 1993 Brendon Massei – better known as Viking Moses – has been touring the world and brought him the reputation as a never-ending “touring machine“. This circumstance and his odd artist alias drew the attention of two young British film makers and made them do the documentary Werewolves across America (Pulse Film) – a portrait of modern youth culture setting folk-icon Viking Moses in its centre.
Viking Moses – as contradictory the name sounds, Brendon Massei achieves to combine these ojections: wild and raw, while at the same time soft and sensible. His music oscillates around Brendon Massei’s unique pulsing guitar and his robust voice, which ebbs from delicate whispers to throaty howls evoking associations to a lutheran wandering priest. Strongly lyrical songs are played out through tunes that flirt with pop, folk, indie, grunge and Americana.
His long lasting musical engagement and endless touring activities lead him colloborations with grandes of American Alternative music scene like Scout Niblet, Phosphorescent, Dirty Projectors and Devandra Benhart. Massei was close with Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia & Magnolia Electric Co.), following Molina’s tragic death, Massei wrote about their friendship in an article for Common Folk Music, and contributed to a covers album benefitting the late singer’s family.
Jarno Varsted is a blues and folk musician born and raised in Denmark, currently living in Berlin. He has recorded and toured internationally with numerous bands and artists, while also performing solo and fronting his own bands, Straight From The Harp and Rumspringa.
