Concert series HEIMSPIEL returns after summer break to Alter Roter Löwe Rein. The upcoming concerts features US anti-folk singer MORGAN ORION stopping by on his Europe tour and a set by Berlin based Indie Trio LEOPRRRDS.
Born and raised in Memphis Morgan Orion nowadays lives in a shack he built by hand in New Orleans, LA. There he works partly solo and partly with his band The Afterburns to create (anti-)folk serenades. But in the end he’s draught on the road for more than 10 years – touring on his own or as a support for artists such as Kimya Dawson, Jeffrey Lewis or The Burning Hell.
In February 2016 he released his so far third LP called The Tunnel of Love and the Hell of Hot Licks via the transatlantic label collective Tri-Lingual. New York anti-folk icon Turner Cody desribes his music as a mix of „Jonathan Richman and the best of Little Wings“. There’s not much to add to this.
Leoprrrds is a Berlin-based three-piece featuring Maya on guitar and voice, Victoria on bass and voice, and Ian on drums and voice. The members come from three different countries, two continents and totally diverse backgrounds. Maya studied guitar at the conservatory in Jerusalem and composition at the UDK in Berlin. Victoria was raised by bears and wolves in Arctic Circle-land, and is an acclaimed novelist in her homeland. She played in various bands in New York and New Orleans before relocating to Berlin. Ian moved to Berlin from Glasgow, where he played many instruments in many bands on the local indie-scene.
Maya and Victoria met among sweat, incense and bare feet at a yoga studio. Via craigslist they found Ian. With three vocalists, firm, repetitive bass lines, and a wealth of overlapping melodies, the international trio will have you swaying in place, eyes closed and head bowed. Together they make dreamy, but raw music that has been compared to the xx, Sleater-Kinney and Slint.
