HEIMSPIEL # 20: OK VANCOUVER OK + SHITWOLF (support)
10. November | Kick-Off: 8.30 p.m.
@ Alter Roter Löwe Rein | Richardstr. 31 | 12043 Berlin
HEIMSPIEL returns to Alter Roter Löwe Rein for its 20th edition. The upcoming concert features Canadian DIY-Trio OK VANCOUVER OK and Berlin based SHITWOLF. Kick off is November 10th at 8.30 p.m.
Black Part of Light is the latest LP of Canadian Trio OK VANCOUVER OK, being released in July 2016. Their so far 10th record is pillared by Jeff Johnsons distinctive voice, which evokes associations to his highness Calvin Johnson. – Maybe it’s also accounted to the founder of legendary label K Records, that the current album dives into new musical spheres. With Eli Moore and Ashley Eriksson – represented artists of K Records with their band Lake – engaged in the recordings they set sails to uncharted acoustic waters.
Black Part of Light drifts far beyond the LoFi Post-Punk of their earlier records into dream-poppy waft of mist. We float on towards the song Comes in Waves. In the video for the closing track silhouettes cover in the golden haze of the sea and it feels like déjà-vu of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.
SHITWOLF is the creative outlet of Gabriel Garcia – born and raised in the (Post-) Reagan-Era and musically socialized by the LoFi-Indie of the nineties such as Sebadoh, Guided by Voices and Elliot Smith. After participating in various band projects and his subsequent move to Berlin he has been working on own songs or ‘audio postcards’, as he calls them. With a 4-track tape recorder he puts together his LoFi serenades and sends them out as mixtapes. Currently engaged in his new band Yaramiso, it’s one of the rare possibilities to see him perform solo.
